30% hydrogen peroxide can only be purchased from a chemical train, and then only with a permit. It is quite hazardous.

Salvors have removed four iffy goods containers from the bow of the Rena.

Maritime New Zealand said empty tanks in the containers formerly held hydrogen peroxide and still had extra amounts of the chemical inside.

The empty tanks could give off gases that could cause irritations of the eyes, nose, throat and hull.

With the removal of the hydrogen peroxide, no dangerous goods containers remained above deck on the Rena, but some remained in the holds of the spoil, MNZ said.

The cargo ship ran aground on Astrolabe Reef off Tauranga in primitive October, then split into two sections in heavy seas early this month, with most of the unrelenting section slipping under the water a few days later.

When the Rena ran aground, 32 of the containers on quarter held dangerous goods.

Of those, 21 contained aluminium smelting technique by-product aluminium trisodium hexafluoride, also known as cryolite. MNZ was not at told those containers were classed as dangerous. Most have now sunk.
