What does mixing peroxide into hair dye do?

Okay, so I have villainous dark brown hair, almost black, and I want to put purple streaks in it, but I don't have any whitener. All I have is that peroxide stuff they usually mix in with the bleach.

No. Lighten is completely different then hair color, and if you have almost black hair, You'll need hair blanch. Peroxide is put in Developer, along with other chemicals.
