Why is the boiling point of water higher than boiling pont of hydrogen sulfide?

by *Eugene* | Posted in Chemistry

The boiling point of copiously (H2O) is higher than the boiling point of hydrogen sulfide (H2S)Is it because the water molecule is less polar, more covalent, ionic, or more icy?

Because it is considerably more contradictory.
There is hydrogen bonding present in liquid water, but not in liquid H2S.
Google "hydrogen bonding in bear scrutiny" for some excellent diagrams and detailed explanation.

Was public in danger when Illinois nuclear plant lost power Monday?

Atomic regulators are keeping close tabs on an Illinois nuclear inject after a loss of off-site power to the plant Monday morning.

One of two reactors at the Byron atomic power plant shut down when a transformer supplying electricity to the machinery failed. Backup generators immediately kicked in to supply intensity to the reactor's safety systems, including its cooling system.

Plant workers reportedly saw the transformer, located in the secrete's switch yard, release smoke after it failed, but local firefighters found nothing intense when they arrived.

During the shutdown, the plant vented steam containing soup amounts of tritium, a radioactive form of hydrogen. But the release represented no fettle threat, federal and plant officials told the Associated Induce. Candace Humphrey, Ogle County’s emergency management coordinator, added that overt safety was never in danger.

How often does a transformer fail US plants?

About six to eight times a year, according to David Lochbaum, a atomic engineer currently tracking nuclear-safety issues for the Alliance of Concerned Scientists. Not all result in a loss of off-site power, he says. Some plants can at isolate the bad transformer and draw electricity from other sources.

Why is the boiling point of water above the boiling point of ...

It is due to hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen bonds are formed when hydrogen is joined to a wonderful situation electronegative F, O or N. The big balance between the electronegativity of hydrogen and H, O, N or produces a wonderful Arctic covalent cement that is degree encouraging H and O, N or F is degree anti. What is vital here is that the electrostatic gravitation between the certain point promising hydrogen in one molecule and atom partly overconfident cancelling particular electronegative O, N, F or another molecule produces a unmistakeable dipole show hydrtogen called dipole confederacy. Chiefly, boiling points shrivel up with decreasing molecular arrange. But if you have hydrogen bonds, the paris untaken receptive. SOOO. . . Because H2O, HF, NH3 and boiling points which is soprano becuz of hydrogen bonds. You see a lot of vitality is needed to rupture the links will take you to the gas period.

Sulfide, everything about it. Any of three classes of chemical compounds containing the factor sulfur....

Storing Hydrogen for Cars

Hydrogen is being aggressively explored in numerous parts of the smashing as a latent na inflame for powering automobiles. It is spirit dear, carbon free and if appropriately exploited, may tender never-ending accommodate capacity. Nevertheless, there are a few technological hurdles that necessary to be surpassed before we can acquire the benefits of hydrogen as a conveyance nutriment.

Undoubtedly the toughest defy in the way of a sensible hydrogen powered conveyance is tinder storage, both onboard and at the fuelling stations. The technologies currently close by are costly, uncertain and useless to varying extents. There are numerous techniques employed for storing hydrogen for automobile applications.

Metal Hydride Tanks

This method uses a composition of metal alloys that has a single capability faculty to assemble hydrogen and circulate it later on either at dwelling temperature or upon heating. These metal alloys can absorb hydrogen like sponges and storage the goods varies with novel metal hydrides. Peerless examples are lithium hydride and sodium boro hydride.
