Why are both water and hydrogen peroxide used in a lab to find out if temp. affects the function of an enzyme?

I'm doing a lab in biology where we put 2ml of liver homogenate in each of 6 assay tubes and add water (the control) and hydrogen peroxide to them. Test tubes 1, 3 and 5 have sprinkle. Test tubes 2, 4 and 6 have hydrogen peroxide. Test tubes 1 and 2 are at reside temperature.

Based on what you described, I'm assuming you're testing the undertaking of a peroxidase (an enzyme that will break down hydrogen peroxide). Liver homogenates are sometimes acclimated to to measure peroxidase activity.

The Oregon State Police forensics lab in Tractable helps to solve hundreds of crimes a year.

Blood, drugs and DNA: It sounds like the spirit of a CSI TV show character.

But for this team of forensic scientists, it's their job and reality, just at a scarcely slower pace.

"Is it like CSI, where we have those results within 45 minutes? No," said OSP Forensic Scientist Jon Stimac. "Once in a down moon, we have a quick case, but as I said, that's few and far between."

That means long hours tackling boring tasks, like isolating controlled substances (drugs).

"I'm irritating to get rid of any fillers or binders, so I can get the drug as pure as I can, so that I can analyze it on the instrument," said OSP forensic scientist Nika Larsen.

She said she was doing that to be proficient to tell police what kind of drugs were in a pipe in evidence.
