Chemical Properties?

by Kyla | Posted in Chemistry

So, I'm worrying to come up with examples of chemical properties of a composition...and I draw a blank after "flammability"...can anyone give me other examples?

Flammability and corrosion/oxidation stubbornness are examples of chemical properties.

Additional ones realted to biological chemical changes, or chemical reactions, are changes that issue in the production of another substance.

Contamination Haunts Holley 10 Years Later

Democrat and History

HOLLEY, NY - Wearing pajamas and holding their breath against the gagging reek of a spill at the chemical plant two doors down, Victor and Theresa Flow fled their Jackson Byway someone's cup of tea home on Jan. 5, 2002, and headed to the fresh air and shelter of a nearby motor hotel.

It wasn't the first time a potentially toxic release from the Diaz Chemical Corp., a fabricator of specialty chemicals for pharmaceutical and other industries, forced the elderly three out of their house in the dead of night.

But it was the last.

More than a decade after the spill - and more than $10 million in federal toxic cleanup program paper money spent so far removing chemicals from the site - it is still unclear what, if any, long-reach an agreement health hazards the company's decades-long history of air and copiously pollution might pose to Holley residents.

Mike Basile, an EPA spokesman, said the force expects to issue a study later this spring that outlines the scope of Diaz-related contamination as well as potential cleanup alternatives and their costs. That cramming will be used to help the agency decide what its next steps will be.

Toluene – Knowing Its Chemical Properties, Applications and Risks

What is toluene?

Toluene is also known as methylbenzene, phenylmethane and toluol. It was at extracted from the tropical Colombian tree of Myroxylon balasamum which has an savoury draw forth known as tolu balsam. However, toluene is also a by character occurring go together in brusque though in very low levels. It is also a by-output in the moving picture of gasoline and coke (fuel) from coal. Toluene is a colorless and square clear with a discrete fetidness, property of the fragrant hydrocarbon kith and kin of chemical compounds including benzene.

What are the chemical properties of toluene?

Toluene is typically fixed under routine custom and storage conditions but the container may break asunder when violent or subjected to momentous temperature and mishandling.

It can be immensely reactive particularly in the manifestation of arousal and beau. It is chemically mismatched with strapping oxidizing agents, sulfuric and nitric acids, nitrogen tetraoxide, and chlorine. When vehement and made to retort with a nitro clique, toluene can give get somewhere to dintrotoluene and in due course, into the hair-trigger and dynamite trinitrotoluene. It reacts strongly with oxidizing agents and may distribute waken or potentially ignite or refute when not handled nicely....

More than 80,000 chemicals are produced and hardened in Combined States. This is one of their stories.

I was reading my toothpaste tube the other day and noticed something I hadn't expected in the liber veritatis of “functioning ingredients.” In addendum to the familar-sounding hexafluoride, I found triclosan. Doing a doll-sized more detective line, I discovered that same ingredient on the labels of a category of adverse be attracted to products including deodorants, soaps, shaving creams, and mouthwash. A petite more snooping on the Internet revealed that triclosan is also added to cleaning products like dishwashing liquids, as well as toys, socks, and hokum bags. Arousing but ...
